Fashion certainly loves the movies.
Last week, Karl Lagerfeld brought Paris to Rome with a runway show inside the fabled Cinecittà film studios. Last night, Salvatore Ferragamo brought an Italian vision of Hollywood movie magic to New York City, with the creation of “Gancio Studios” in a West Village photo studio.
Guests—including Julianne Moore, Michelle Monaghan, Dree Hemingway, and an extravagant cast of Italian journalists and editors—made their way into Ferragamo’s big New York party to discover a series of vignettes designed to appear like movie sets. The first featured a classic red Alfa Romeo convertible, parked in front of a backdrop projection of a winding road, so that the selfie-minded could photograph themselves as if in a film. Other sets included a resort lounge and very pink bedroom.

In an industry that celebrates anniversaries and milestones with gusto, Ferragamo distinguished itself with a series of events marking a century of connections to the movies. In September, the company opened its William Sofield-designed flagship on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, where Salvatore Ferragamo himself once created shoes for Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, and many others.

Cementing that movie connection for a new generation, the Gancio Studios, named after Ferragamo’s house emblem, which appeared on sunglasses and handbags throughout the party, also featured the premiere of “Ferragamo Signature,” a short film starring Elettra Wiedemann and Ethan Peck (pictured below with Ferragamo creative director Massimiliano Giornetti, middle). They happen to be the grandkids of Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck, respectively, original customers of Salvatore Ferragamo.
